Meet Target’s Leaders
of Animal Cruelty.

TARGET has an animal cruelty problem. The company is falling behind the food industry by continuing to sell eggs from caged hens. Target once promised customers it would phase out battery cage eggs, but according to its 2024 sustainability report, the company is now backing away from the commitment. In battery cage farms, chickens are confined in cages so small that they can barely move. This practice is so controversial and inhumane that it is illegal in many U.S. states and the entire European Union. Not even McDonald’s will use eggs from these facilities.

Target claims to hold itself to the “highest ethical standards.” How is caging animals ethical?
